A mini-vacation on my desktop with unobstructed views.
I like the colorful stuff. While other people would prefer neutrals or hues that aren’t turned up to 11, and while my favorite color is the safest, most popular one in the world, I don’t discriminate. I welcome the possibilities of each speck in the spectrum. (Although navigating the tints and shades of orange is the trickiest in my experience.) The thing is, while I wanted to delight in the […]
If you work anywhere near websites or apps you’d have to have heard about the skeuomorphism backlash in the past year or so. Basically: you know all of the detailed, lickable, analog-looking interfaces you see on Apple mobile devices (and then the Mac)? Turns out they’re not always the best design for a virtual interface just because they look like objects we’ve used in real life. That makes sense. But […]
It’s a shame Google doesn’t have a more interesting address. Microsoft has @live.com while Apple has @me.com. Not sure why people opt for @outlook.com or @firstname.lastname@example.org when you can have those. Update (10/17/13): Added updates to Yahoo! Mail and iCloud. Their interfaces look slick too, but neither compare to the power of Gmail. I don’t really have a reason to give out those other addresses either. Ocean theme at dawn […]
I’m supposed to be hunting down a new phone (I have a 100% track record of losing phones on buses) but for some reason I can’t bring myself to choose, the main reason being I don’t depend on my phone that much. I wish voicemail were the norm in the Philippines because there are times when I don’t feel like attending to calls smack dab in the middle of work. […]
Consumer Electronics Live! 2008 was disappointing. From its buggy, uninformative Flash-based website to a sparse SMX Exhibit Hall (it wasn’t even the last day!), this was another sign that modernity in this third world country is too brittle, too shallow at this point.
Tagged the mobile phone made exclusively for Filipinos, the MC1 is essentially any ordinary cellphone with one additional feature: you can make missed calls on purpose. To understand the true value of a missed call, or in local vernacular, miskol, it is necessary to look into the essence of what happens to be the 2007 Sawikaan Salita ng Taon (Word of the Year). In this event, the miskol, entered by […]
“Piece of Crap” A phrase I’ve never heard to describe a Mac Book Pro. Outraged? Don’t look at me, go comment there. At least I got to discover Neil Young’s great song. “You still deserve to die.” Have a look at the Lawyer Client’s Manifesto at Gaping Void. I always take a jab at lawyers, often at my dad (don’t ask), and I’m pretty jaded about them. Sorry, but I […]
In my quest to get to know Opera a little bit better—even if I have used it way before Mozilla became popular—I’ve snooped around the most delightful Opera Widgets I could find. The great thing about Opera Widgets is that they load right after downloading them (unlike Firefox where an add-on or a theme will only take effect upon restart). Also, because they are widgets and not browser extensions, they […]
