The layout that took almost a year to make. Well, not all of that time I slaved away in front of the computer to get it done. It isn’t even done right now.
Anecdotes
I’m particular about the black on my monitor. Whenever I realize it is that screen color that has been tampered with, such that it displays some shade of gray and not the absence of all colors, I hit the controls and bring back the deepest, emptiest, voidest shade of black I can muster.
Other draft layouts for Stellify were not done in black. I started out in a happy place - well-lit and silvery, bluey, icy cool. But after stumbling upon this deep, dark space, I kept ogling. (That’s why it took ages to complete even after the images were completed.) It drew me in, as a stargazer turns towards the heavens night after night, searching. Vast and void to the untrained eye, the black of the sky only reveals the stars to those who dig deeper.
I still do not understand dark layouts. The ones you’d find on websites that revolved around stereotypically masculine affairs: games, cars, gadgets, porn, fantasy (oh, wait, I already mentioned porn). Perhaps because in these sites, black has been the slave of blinding neons, dripping blood, frozen death, slimy toxicities, and the underground—in an angst-claims-to-be-cool-not-bratty way.
Poor B. If it’s any consolation, here’s a little something for the zero-ridden hex value: a study in monochrome. See, this time, I think I understand black.
Who ever said you were a lesser hue? You don’t just influence the overall mood. You are the mood.
You are not the void. Only you can reveal where we are allowed to trespass.
You make the rules. It’s all up to you.
[...] Feel free to look around the Portfolio for a list of recent things I’ve been with/in/about/for and Network for even more hyperlinked goodness, especially ones we advocate crazily! Also, this lengthy bit about the site will have to do as an introduction. [...]
[...] I finally gave in, maybe because by then the other things were gone. I started slaving over an uber-customized Wordpress installation that fit my needs: a blog, a stash of sites I’ve made, feeds from the rest of my world, and a huge links page. You can read more about the current version in the portfolio entry for Stellify. [...]

[...] Prefers to be called Ia, Sophia is a tech blogger and web designer who graduated from UP Diliman. She has worked on extensive projects and has an impressive portfolio under her belt or rather in her blog. Stellify.net started out in September of 2006 so making it to the Finalists for the Phil. Blog Awards at just 6 months of being online is a testament to the blog and the blogger behind it. What’s striking about Stellify is that it’s one of the very few blogs among the Finalists that is rendered or designed to be monochromatic; back all throughout. Others may find it gloomy, sad, evil at most, but for Ia she sees it differently, she sees there is more to black that few have realized. Ia expounds on this when she wrote… I still do not understand dark layouts. The ones you’d find on websites that revolved around stereotypically masculine affairs: games, cars, gadgets, porn, fantasy (oh, wait, I already mentioned porn).
