It’s a shame Google doesn’t have a more interesting address. Microsoft has @live.com while Apple has @me.com.

Not sure why people opt for @outlook.com or @mac.com/@icloud.com when you can have those.

Their interfaces look slick too, but neither compare to the power of Gmail. I don’t really have a reason to give out those other addresses either.

Yes, Google-mail was the mother of slick. After years of using the free service, the interface seemingly becomes a bit boring. Like you mentioned, iCloud and even Outlook.com has gotten their acts aligned when it comes to cloud-mail design & utility.
Yet still, I must agree with you, when it comes to functionality, Gmail remains to be a winner :)
