Anecdotes
Founded by the Computer Science Representatives 2004-2005 (that’s Carlos, Chicco, Mike, and Ponch), the UP Alliance of Computer Science Students or the UP CS Network is one of the best things that happened to the Department. The problem is what other people actually think of it, or how they actually understand its purpose, or if they even know it exists. To me it’s the unification of all components of the Department for smoother communication and execution of Department-related projects.
Come AY 2005-2006, we got word on an upcoming Engineering Student Council event: The Engineering House Cup. Yes, patterned after the yearlong competition in Harry Potter. Departments were to compete amongst themselves in all aspects. Each successful achievement had equivalent points. I believe we were the most excited about it especially since we already had the Network running. One of the contests was to come up with a House Coat of Arms. And guess what, we decided that the House of the CS Firefoxes would sound most appropriate. We were fans of the open source browser Firefox and we loved the energy that the developer team, the community, and the ‘mascot’ had. “Fiery, foxy, and feverishly eager to excel. Fox you!”
However, the House Cup didn’t push through (not all were convinced that they should waste time competing like that, while we already had a system for keeping track of all possible points—not to mention the ones we should have earned from contests we already won at the start of the schoolyear!).
But we were still the best Department that year. In terms of the CS Representative’s projects, at least.

[...] During that time, we’ve been busy not only with finding funds to print the paper, but also with distributing the news in other forms (web, wall news, email newsletter). We’ve also spearheaded several projects and have been active in the UP CS Network, the Alliance of Computer Science Students. (I was a representative to the Network for Parser.) [...]
